London Landmarks 2026

I’m running London Landmarks in the fight for breath!

So I’ve entered the London Half Marathon next year with an ambitious target!

As most will know - I’ve been an asthma sufferer since a very young age and have had countless asthma attacks in my life, with several having me admitted to hospital. My most recent attack was in 2021…

Care has got better and in the last 3 years, groundbreaking medication has improved my symptoms no end. Coupled with  a more healthy lifestyle and exercise - my asthma is now under control.

But it took 37 years of missed opportunities, watching at the sidelines friends do what they do and everyday activities being a struggle.

I’m not a runner - never have done more than a mile or two in my life so this feels ambitious! But I’m motivated and every £1 donated goes towards Asthma and Lung UK - looking after amazing research, development and support to individuals with life changing health issues.

Thank you so much in advance!

My Updates

24 hours to go!

Saturday 11th Apr
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated and those checking back for updates. It’s the day before the run and I’m super excited! The last 6 months have been challenging in so many different ways but tomorrow is the victory lap 😊 What started off as a personal ambition to be better, fitter and healthier has set the direction of a new lifestyle. I’m physically and mentally stronger for it - endurance sports are hard in every way possible and the number of times I have wanted to give up and stop I cannot possibly count. But each step forward gets a little easier. My transformation has been entirely possible because of the great support I’ve had. Support from the NHS and the Asthma and Lung UK Charity with the new medication and advice to enable me to start this process. My family and friends for their support and allowing me to rattle on none stop about running (!) with a few of them now motivated enough to run themselves too, my partner for mentoring me and pushing me on and making sure that even in the cold and wetter days during training that we got out and did something and to everyone else who believed in me and donated for this great cause. All that’s left to do now is pack up my bag and get myself to London!

2 weeks to go!

Thursday 26th Mar
Well it’s almost 2 weeks to go! I’ve hit my current peak fitness and this week completed my first half marathon training run. I was 2 mins shy of my 2 hour target but I left some in the tank ahead of the race itself!

I’ve entered a number of 5k and 10k races in the last month though and am performing well. I feel like a runner now - and my training continues on!

If all goes to plan on the day - my 2 hour goal will be achieved and I’ll have raised awareness and money for this amazing charity.

My health has been transformed through better medication, regular checkups and support from the NHS and charities such as Asthma and Lung UK are driving better management and awareness of asthma, it’s support and on-going help and advice to sufferers.

Please donate where you can - 38 years of my life I was held back! Let’s hope research continues on and kids today don’t have the same issues I did growing up.

End of December update

Friday 26th Dec
The winter months have been hard to train in - with dark nights, cold, wind and rain to contend with!

That said - I continue on in my journey to be a half marathon runner!

On the 16th October, I managed a 6.7km run which saw me sprinting to the end for 0.7km at a pace of 5:51/km.

I am now running consistently at 5:07/km over distance and ramping into the 3:50's for sprint finishes. The transformation is INCREDIBLE with what running has done for me.

I'm now running regularly 20-25km per week and extending this by 10% each week. I'm running a 5KM parkrun now in 25:41 - this has felt incredible to see my 5KM time reduce but how that's carried into my longer 7-10km runs.

This weekend I will be running 15KM for the first time and extending up to 21KM in the next 6 weeks before reducing the loading and focusing on intervals and Zone 2 fitness to help with endurance and breathing!

Thank you for your support!

Update on training!

Thursday 23rd Oct
Hi everyone and thank you for your continued support.

I’ve been developing nicely and am now running 5km in under 30 minutes and extending my runs to 7km. My goal is 10km by the end of November!

My breathing and fitness are all improving with every run and PT session. I’m really looking forward to seeing the mile markers get bigger as the training continues!

Couch to 5km

Sunday 28th Sep
So today I’ve started the journey of becoming a runner with a 5km walk/run. As any inexperienced runner will know - it’s easy to just set off and burn yourself out quickly! So my first km was a 6:22 which felt good - and then I fell to bits! But I’m on the wagon and with every run I’ll develop consistency and strength. More to come….!

Couch to 5k

Thursday 25th Sep
So tomorrow (Friday) is the first step in preparation for London. I've been working on my general fitness and losing weight for the last 6 weeks and now about to jump from the couch and start to become a runner.

5km doesn't sound far on my bike - but running seems daunting at the moment! But let's take baby steps: walking, running, walking, running - slowly increasing my muscles, fitness and breathing over the coming months to hit the magic half marathon distance!
