Running the London Marathon for Asthma + Lung UK
Saturday 8th NovI’m incredibly proud to be running the London Marathon 2026 for Asthma + Lung UK.
At the age of five, I was diagnosed as a chronic asthmatic. Growing up, I had countless hospital stays, ambulance callouts from school trips, nights out, and even once from a film set I was working on. My worst attack left me on life support so my body could rest and recover, a truly terrifying experience for me and my family.
A week after returning from our honeymoon, I was hospitalised again following a severe asthma attack. During that stay, I met an incredible consultant who completely transformed my treatment plan. That moment changed my life. Over the next six years, I experienced only mild attacks something I hadn’t thought possible and I finally rediscovered my joy for exercise.
When I fell pregnant with my daughter, Juliet, my asthma began to worsen during the early stages. I went to my GP for advice, but was told that the inhalers I was using could be harmful to the baby and was advised to stop them. The following two weeks were horrendous I struggled to breathe and ended up in hospital repeatedly.
In desperation, I called Asthma + Lung UK for help and advice. The woman on the phone was incredibly kind and patient as I tried to explain my situation between gasps for breath. Within an hour, she’d consulted with their medical team and called me back with a full treatment plan, which was immediately sent to my doctors.
That call quite literally saved our lives. Without the correct medication, neither Juliet nor I would be here today and I will be forever grateful to Asthma + Lung UK for their advocacy, care, and expertise.
After Juliet was born, during the Covid lockdowns, I turned to running. At first, I could barely manage ten minutes without struggling, but I stuck with it. Now I’ve completed ten half marathons and am training for my first full marathon. My lung health has never been better a combination of the right medication and the strength that running has given my breathing muscles.
Without the Asthma + Lung UK research team, I wouldn’t have access to the medication that keeps me healthy, or the life-saving advice that kept my daughter and me safe. Running this marathon is my way of saying thank you and helping others breathe a little easier too.
