Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a lung condition. As someone who lives with asthma, I know firsthand how precious every easy breath can be. That’s why I’m running 26.2 miles to support Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right breathe - because breathing freely shouldn’t be a luxury!
Asthma facts that will take your breathe away…
- 5.4 million Brits have asthma (roughly 1 in 12 of us) – which could fill Wembley Stadium 60 times over
- Asthma kills 3 people every day in the UK, but 2 of those deaths are preventable with proper care
- Asthma costs the NHS £1 billion annually – that’s roughly 200 million cups of hospital tea
- Asthma can be triggered by laughter, certain drinks like wine and a change of temperature between two environments
Every run reminds me how lucky I am when my lungs cooperate, and why research and support for lung conditions matter so much.
£22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK’s nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice saving advice. Every pound raised takes us closer to a world with healthy lungs, helping fun life-changing research, provide vital support services, and ensure no one has to face lung disease alone.
