London Marathon 2026

I’m running the London Marathon 2026 to fight for lung health!

Hi Everyone,

On October 4, 2024, I lost my incredible mother to COPD. From my earliest memories, I spent the majority of my teenage and adult years caring for her. Over time, her condition deteriorated, leading to countless hospital admissions. Eventually, she required oxygen therapy at home and relied on a Non-Invasive Ventilator (NIV) daily to sustain her life.

As her primary caregiver until the last two years, when I needed assistance from professional carers, I had to educate myself on all aspects of lung health. This knowledge helped me recognize the signs of infection, understand when to use a nebulizer, and learn how to manage oxygen use outside the home safely. During this journey, I discovered Asthma & Lung UK, the only charity in the UK dedicated to providing support groups, scientific research, online resources, and a 24/7 helpline.

It was my mother’s idea for me to run the London Marathon. She loved watching it on television, and before her health declined, she shared my passion for sports at a young age. I am heartbroken that she is no longer here to see me run, but I was fortunate to begin my training while she was still alive. We even ran together - well, she zoomed alongside me in her mobility scooter while I sprinted next to her!

I am participating in this marathon to demonstrate that anyone can enhance their lung health through physical activity. Being active invigorates the lungs, improves asthma symptoms, supports those with lung diseases and COPD, and can even aid in preventing lung cancer.

I’ve challenged myself to run The London Marathon 2026! I’m supporting Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone's right to breathe. Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a lung condition. I want to make a difference.

Just £22 could go towards Health Care Advisors supporting someone with the information they need to live well with a lung condition. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!

As Asthma + Lung UK say, breath is life. That’s worth fighting for.

Thank you,

Emily
