Lisa Gregory

London Marathon 2026

OMG its happening...I'm running a marathon (and for an amazing cause too)

I was diagnosed with Asthma at just 6 years old. To this day I still remember the first time I was shown how to use an inhaler and how my hands were too small to use the aerosol ones.

Over the years my GP shared with me a number of child-friendly booklets that had been produced by Asthma UK (as it was then) which really helped me understand my condition in an age-appropriate way.

After missing out on a ballot place, when I saw I could run for Asthma + Lung UK I thought it was the perfect match to fundraise for a charity that does so much to support so many.

At university I went without incident for so long my GP decided to phase out my meds thinking I had grown out of Asthma, but after a visit to A&E decided it was probably best we stuck with them, and these days it’s much better controlled.

Whereas I never enjoyed sports as a child, these days I run for fun! I completed the NHS couch to 5k to get fitter before my wedding in 2012 then didn’t really keep it up

During Covid I built up to running 10k then pushed myself to run further and further but always by myself (in case I changed my mind!). In summer 2023 I finally took myself along to Parkrun and got the bug for running with others.

I am running the marathon to raise awareness and funds to support and inspire others with lung conditions. As a child who struggled with cross country, I would never have believed something like this was possible, and I want to show everyone that being on medication for life only stops you as much as you allow it to.

I am grateful for every single donation you make, there is no minimum, and every £1 makes a difference.

My Updates

No turning back now...

Thursday 8th Jan
Whilst I'd accepted my charity spot a while ago today was the day I officially registered for the event. I have submitted my predicted finish time (it can be changed as many times as I like apparently!) ordered my finishers tshirt, and confirmed that yes I most certainly would like to receive a medal at the finish line!! Im 4 weeks into my official training, and now I have committed to running a marathon THIS YEAR, things are starting to feel a little scary 😬

Saturday 13th Dec
Long overdue update but here we go... After enjoying Maidstone, on 16th November I did Marden Half - good practise on the mileage front but def didn't enjoy the second loop running past the 10k finishers! Missed a few parkruns, did a few treadmill runs and then today I finally got back to parkrun with my ALUK running vest and very cold hands!

189 days and counting...

Sunday 19th Oct
So today I ran an 'official' race - The Maidstone Half Marathon. I have run the distance before (not for a while) but never entered any official race until London. Signed up to todays event impulsively at the last minute when I thought id missed out and you know what I really enjoyed it. Lucky with mild weather all morning, and a hilly but scenic route. So much support all the way round by marshals other runners and the general public 💜 All in all its made me less nervous, and more excited to be taking part in London 🏅👏🦖

217 days to go

Sunday 21st Sep
It still barely seems real, but sure it will be here before I know it.

Up until recently my plan was to keep myself in generally good fitness until Christmas and step up with a more formal training plan starting January, but since everyone has been asking me how my training is going I figured I should probably get started a bit sooner!

I have shared a post on Facebook today as I can get a free personalised training plan from Coopah if I receive any donations over this weekend (prior to 23.59 tonight) giving me a much more reasonable chance of success (without injury) 😊

Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far, I genuinely appreciate every penny.

307 days to go...

Monday 23rd Jun
Well here we are, looks like I'm running a marathon! After last Thursdays disappointment at not getting a place in the original ballot imagine my surprise this morning when another email popped up telling me I have the chance to run for Asthma + Lung UK - few clicks and fundraising pledges later and here we are! 307 days and counting. Feels a long way off, but sure it will be here before we know it!
