Why I am running the Marathon
Tuesday 4th NovOn January 28th, my best friend Ella Grogan passed away suddenly from pneumonia shortly after her 19th birthday. We had just finished our first term together at Durham University and we were so excited for the year ahead.
Ella lit up every room she entered. She made the most of every opportunity, and she inspired everyone around her to do the same. Her love for trying new things is what inspired me to sign up for the London Marathon. I have never been a runner but I know that Ella would have been the first to encourage me to give it a go and I know that she will be with me every step of the way.
Ella was driven, enthusiastic, and always threw herself wholeheartedly into everything she did- whether that was sports, societies or simply supporting the people she cared about. Ella was an incredible squash player and sports scholar for Durham, yet still managed to fit in Collingwood Netball and Mixed Lacrosse into her busy schedule. She continues to inspire everyday.
This marathon is for Ella. To celebrate her life and to raise money for Asthma and Lung UK, an amazing and valuable charity that supports people affected by lung conditions and funds vital research to prevent tragedies, like Ella’s, from happening in the future.
