I am finally running the London Marathon - please help me raise money for Asthma UK
I have had Asthma since I was at least 7 years old. Throughout
my school years I was unable to do any sport. Asthma treatment was almost non-existent
when I was young, I spent many days and nights struggling to breathe with my
head over a bowl of hot water infused with a cocktail of cough mixtures.
I went to boarding school for my secondary education, and despite my protests I
was often made to take part in cross country races - which on most occasions
resulted in spending several days in the school hospital recovering. It was
during the latter years of my secondary school education that Asthma medication
started to become more effective. This was the start of my long journey to a mostly
well controlled Asthma - although when I do forget, or the preventative inhaler
runs low, I soon start to feel tight chested and out of breath.
Asthma treatments have continued to improve and have transformed my ability to
exercise. I completed my first marathon at the age of 60 in 2022,and cycled all
three ascents of the Iconic Mont Ventoux in a day for my 60th Birthday.
None of this would have been possible
without the advances in Asthma treatment.
I have now completed 6 Marathons and my aim is to do 10 by the time I am 70.
Running the London Marathon has always been my dream home marathon. As a bonus my wife Katrina will also be running
London and her third Marathon. I am very lucky to be able to do it whilst at
the same time raising money for Asthma UK. I will be very grateful for any
donations you could make!
My Updates
Less than 6 weeks to go!
Tuesday 17th Mar It is 5 weeks this coming Sunday until the London marathon! That will 15 weeks of the training plan completed. It's 5 runs and up to 55 miles a week. It's been going well, despite several of the long runs being in awful wet, windy and cold weather. My Achilles, which I had a tear in last January has been mostly okay, although it does remind me every now and again to look after it. My times are looking good, and to my surprise are an improvement on this time last year in the build up to Manchester. I am very aware that the weather conditions on the day can affect the performance on the day. I'm staying injury free by continuing the strength training, rest days and am benefiting from being able to use a cold plunge and jacuzzi to help recovery after a hard run. Thank you everyone for your support, it really does help keep me going on the hard training days. ShareThank you to my Sponsors
