Great North Run 2027

I’m running The Great North Run in the fight for breath!

For most people, breathing is effortless, something they never have to think about.

For me, it’s been a constant thought for 34 years. It’s shaped how I move, how I join in and how I feel in my own body.

Every bit of physical activity, no matter how small, has felt like stepping into a battle I never asked for. The tight chest. The panic. The frustration. The embarrassment. The moments where I watched life happening around me while I stood breathless on the sidelines, trying to catch a breath that never came easily.

Asthma hasn’t just affected my lungs. It’s shaped my confidence, my choices, my childhood, my adulthood and the way I’ve seen myself. There were things I wanted to try, things I wanted to be part of, but I already knew how it would end breathless, defeated and feeling like my body had let me down again.

But I’m done letting asthma decide who I get to be.

This year, I’m doing something I never believed I could. I’m running The Great North Run, not just for myself, but for everyone who knows what it’s like to fight for every breath. For everyone who’s ever felt scared, limited or left behind because their lungs wouldn’t cooperate.

I’m running for Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity fighting for every person’s right to breathe freely. They support people like me, fund life-changing research, and push for a future where lung disease doesn’t steal moments, memories or confidence.

Every pound genuinely matters. Just £24 can fund an hour of vital lung research, the kind of work that could change lives like mine and give hope to millions of others.

This run is me taking control. I’m still here. I’m still fighting. And I’m finally ready to break past the limits asthma has placed on me.

Any support, big or small, would mean the world to me.

Thank you for any support in my fight for lung health.
