I’m running the London Marathon in the fight for breath
After my wife Becky had repeated hospital admissions with breathing difficulties this year, I decided to use my place to raise funds for this worthy cayse. Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a lung condition. I want to make a difference. I'm running the London Marathon for Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.
Just £24 can support a researcher at the start of their career to carry out an hour of lung health research to ensure we attract and keep the best scientific minds to focus on lung disease.

And so it begins... getting old
Sunday 14th Dec Running-wise 2025 started REALLY badly for me. Covid in October 2024 messed up my lungs completely and it took 2 changes of inhalers and 6 months of rest before I could run again. Then in September my knee began to hurt, giving out fully ia month later. Normally I would take part in around 6-8 races in a year. This year... one. I was forced to cancel the rest.December, and I'm back on the road, but it's slow progress. Im running 8 1-minute intervals. My lungs are holding out, my knee Im not sure about. I will try for longer next week but need to take it steady. One wrong move and it will go again.
I have been told not to worry, that I will get there, but I have major doubts. My first London Marathon was 2008. I'm a lot older now and for the first time I feel it. As my brother recently said to me, getting old sucks. I have experience on my side though, and I've come back from much worse. I've decided I will get there. It's going to be slow, probably painful, but in Aoril I will cross that finish line.
