I’m running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in memory of my Nana and the fight for breath!

In January 2017 my Nana lost her fight against Pulmonary Fibrosis. Through my teens and early adult years I watched her suffer from this horrible, debilitating, but largely unknown condition. Nana did so much for me, it’s only fair I do this for her.

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a form of lung disease. I want to make a difference. I'm running the LLHM for Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs. 

I was aiming for £365, just £1 for each day of the year - I then doubled this, then up to £1,000, can we get to £1,500?!

Tuesday 14th Apr

Two days after the event and my legs are still in a lot of pain, but I did it, thank you!

Your donations have helped me to raise over £2,000. Amazingly that is six times as much as I had hoped for when I started out, it is going to make a real difference to a great cause close to my heart. 

I am so grateful and appreciative of all your support, it did genuinely keep me going during some parts of the race when I was struggling. 

Speaking of which, I completed the run in 1 hour, 50 minutes and 31 seconds. Very happy to have come in comfortably under the 2-hour mark, though admittedly a tiny bit disappointed I didn’t make up an extra 32 seconds for an even better time!

The Final Countdown

Tuesday 7th Apr
I have one final taper run and a whole lot of pasta to eat this week before the big day, this time next week all of the training and fundraising will be a distant memory.

Full of Pastel de Natas

Monday 16th Mar
Last week I celebrated my birthday in Lisbon; great weather, plenty of food and lots of drink. I did manage a 5km plod through the cobbled streets and along the beach front.

With less than one month to go it's time to get back on the horse for some long, race intensity runs before tapering ahead of Easter and trying not to over do it on the Creme or Mini Eggs.

Fundraising target and 10km Race

Thursday 5th Mar
Having surpassed my initial fundraising target, and now £500, I’ve updated my target to £730. Double my original plan, £2 for each day of the year. Thanks again everyone. 

Training in the gym and on the pavements is going well, glimpses of Spring are making it slightly easier. With 6 weeks to go I completed the Windsor & Eton Brewery 10km in 53:39, a happy medium pace between some race practice and a training run. The free beer at the end definitely helped. 

Training Update

Tuesday 10th Feb
First of all, thank you to everyone who has donated so far - it really means a lot. 

Some work in the gym, continuation of Parkrun (including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day!), and a dry-ish Jan all helped me get back under a 25 minute 5km - a great base to start my half marathon training. 

This week I completed a 13km training run, the furthest I’ve ever done. I’ve also signed up for the Windsor & Eton 10km race on Sunday 1st March as a test run before a couple of easier weeks to enjoy my birthday celebrations. 

That will then leave me 4 weeks before the big day, injury and weather dependent I am hoping to get it done in under 2 hours!

Running journey and plan

Sunday 31st Aug
Having started casually a couple of years ago to replace some fitness lost by giving up football, I quickly caught the bug. Dragging friends down to Parkrun for a social jog became serious training for a 10k PB. 

Currently just maintaining my running a couple of times a week, with focus in the gym to get my body stronger for the training that will be needed to complete this in a good time. 

The fully focused half marathon training will ramp up from January.
