London Marathon 2026

I’m running the London Marathon

With 14 weeks’ notice I've somehow gotten a place in the London Marathon on April 26th. That's going to be 26.2 miles of sore feet all while raising money for Asthma + Lung UK. 2026 Simon is now officially a marathon runner.

I've had asthma all my life. It's never been horrific but it's always been bad enough to need two inhalers a day and think twice before doing anything too crazy. I’ve been lucky as my asthma hasn’t stopped me from living my life but for millions of people, it’s a daily challenge. Asthma + Lung UK supports people with lung conditions, funds research, and campaigns for cleaner air so breathing is easier for everyone.

I normally don’t ask anyone for anything and I’m usually the one making sarcastic comments about people fundraising for something they just want to do. Now it’s time I cash in those favours and you get to make the comments instead. This is for a charity that genuinely does amazing work for those less fortunate than ourselves.

The Goal

I’m aiming to raise £2,500. That works out at roughly £96 per mile or about £1 per wheeze if my lungs have anything to say about it.

Your Rewards

To make fundraising slightly less boring (and slightly more effective), I'm offering some thank-you rewards for anyone who donates. Food and DIY are basically my life and anyone who knows my wife will know her cookies and brownies aren't normally for sale. This is a rare opportunity to experience those culinary joys.

Here’s the list of bribes/rewards:

- £10: A homemade cookie 🍪

- £25: A box of brownies 🍫

- £50: 2 hours of DIY help 🛠

- £125: A cook-at-home meal kit for two 📦

- £150: I’ll build or fix something for you 🪚

- £250: You can come over and we’ll have a dinner party 🍽️

After donating, just message me and we’ll sort out the boring bits like dates, addresses, and chocolate preferences.

Running a marathon is tough. Running with asthma in the back of your mind makes it a little harder. But every mile I run will be for the people who really need help breathing. With your support, I can hit my £2,500 target and help Asthma + Lung UK keep making a difference.

So, if you want a cookie, brownies, DIY help, a meal kit, or a dinner party… or if you just want to support 2026 Simon regretting his life choices, please donate!

Thanks in advance for helping me breathe (and run) a little easier. Keep up to date with fundraising progress on this page and if you want to watch me slowly fall apart over the next 14 weeks, follow my training on Strava: https://www.strava.com/athletes/52689195

Half way to the target!

Thursday 22nd Jan
Thank you to everyone that has kindly donated (or been successfully bribed by baked goods and DIY help).

Just over a week into this marathon fundraising madness and we’re already at the halfway mark. £1,232 raised towards the £2,500 target is honestly way more than I expected at this stage. It’s incredibly motivating knowing how many people have got behind this and how many brownies Charlotte now needs to bake.

Now I just need to get running!
