London Marathon 2025

I’m running the London Marathon 2025 to fight for lung health!

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a lung condition. I want to make a difference. I'm running the London Marathon 2025 for Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.

Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice.

Fundraising works not because one person gives a lot, but because a lot of people give a bit, and I would be very grateful for any donations you could make! You can make a difference to people across the UK living with Asthma + Lung conditions.

Thank you

My Updates

Marathon Completed

Sunday 4th May
I did it! I completed the London Marathon in 6 hours and 40 minutes!

Bib number

Tuesday 15th Apr
Earlier in the week I had the email that I have been waiting for. My bib number for the Marathon is going to be 66770! Now it feels very real! I'm well into my tapering period so the runs are getting shorter and easier to make sure I'm fully fit and ready for the big day in just under 2 weeks time!

Back on it!

Tuesday 17th Dec
After my 10k event in November, I knew that I had my holiday to Florida fast approaching, and planned to use the 2 weeks to rest and recover and look forward to throwing myself into my longer distance training.
Fast forward 6 weeks and I had only managed the occasional short run with some football thrown in for good measure. I had fallen out of the habit of running and it showed. My energy levels were down, and my motivation was missing. I hadn't realised how much fitter I had become through the first few months, and how much I missed it!

Today that changed, and I was back on the plan. A 50 minute run with some hills thrown in as an added effor.
It was hard work, and my legs were burning but I loved every second of it.

Now I've got a couple of days rest before the next run on Friday

Sunday 3rd Nov
Yesterday I took part in my first official race, and my first 10k in my training plan, and I enjoyed every second of it.
The atmosphere was something special, as I hadn't experience people cheering me on before, and it definitely helped to push me on.
The furthest I had run before was 8k, so I was fully expecting it to be tough, and by the end I thought my legs were going to stop but I surprised myself. I kept finding more and more, and was even able to put in a sprint finish across the line.
I was aiming for 1 hour 15, and was officially timed at 1 hour 16 and 39 seconds which I am very happy with.
Now for a bit of rest before my next checkpoint..... Half Marathon

Training stepping up a gear

Monday 7th Oct
As my first race of the year is approaching, my training has stepped up a gear from keeping fit, into full long run training!
On the 2nd November I will be running the Nottingham 10k, which will not only be my first 10k race in my training, but my first 10k race ever!  My target time will be 1 hour 15.
I did my local park run last week and took 45 seconds off of my personal best (without trying to run quickly) so I can feel the training working!

About me

Friday 7th Jun
Hi, if you don’t know me, my name is Chris. I live in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and on the 27th April 2025 I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for ‘Asthma + Lung UK’. If you do know me then you will know that I am in no way fit enough to run a marathon.... yet.

I have thought about taking on this challenge for a few years, but never took the plunge. My dad did the Seven Sisters Marathon in his youth, and has always had visible sense of pride when he talks about it. I’ve often thought to myself that I’d like that to be me one day. The catalyst for entering this year came  earlier this year when my mum was admitted to ITU after becoming acutely unwell with her breathing. She has always had asthma and has been hospitalised in the past with asthma attacks but this one was different. The incredible care she received from the ITU team and then the specialist Asthma consultant brought her back to us, and for that, I will be forever grateful.
Now I have the opportunity to raise some money for Asthma + Lung UK and help to fund the vital research into new treatments and pay for the Asthma specialist nurses on hand day and night for those that need them.

I’ll be updating my blog regularly with my progress from where I am now as an occasional 5k runner to (hopefully) a marathon finisher in 2025. The hard work starts now! If you have read this far, and you are able to, please consider donating to the fund now. Even a small amount can make a difference. Wish me luck!
