Joanne Naylor

London Marathon 2025

2 marathons, 1 amazing charity

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a lung condition. The reason I picked this charity: Fran and Sheila Naylor - the most amazing parents and grandparents - both taken from us way too soon by lung disease. Since securing my place, Frank has ended up in hospital with his asthma and my latest test results have shown that Covid has left me with damaged lungs so lung disease research is very important to us. Thank you so much to my sponsors for helping to research ways to improve lung health in the UK ❤️🫁❤️

I’m challenging myself to run two marathons to raise money for this great charity: London 27/4 and Prague 4/5.

£22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice. The charity also funds new research. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make! If you can spare a pound or two that would be very much appreciated. Thank you xxx

My Updates

We did it!!!!

Thursday 22nd May
Thank you so much to all of you for your donations! We hit the £2k target set by the charity. I was one of 500 runners for the charity so you have been part of an effort that raised over one million pounds!!!!!! Thank you ❤️🎉

PB

Sunday 18th May
Very chuffed to have beaten my personal best at 10k

Bognor 10k

Sunday 18th May
Final race before Team Breathe’s fundraising deadline - thank you to all my fabulous supporters xxxx

I did it!!! Prague marathon completed.

Sunday 4th May
Despite the chip still saying that I’m still running… 7.5hrs and still kicking… I finished it a couple of hours ago!!! Started slow and finished around 5.20. Very chuffed after last weekend’s drama. Thank you so much for all your donations xxx

Did it!!!!

Sunday 27th Apr
Thank you so much for your support. Finished in around 5 and a half hours. Very hot race and had an asthma wobble at the end so had to walk the last couple of miles. Got to get checked out by the GP to make sure I’m ok to run Prague but there are more challenges in the calendar to replace Prague if needed: great south run in Oct followed by Brighton half marathon. Fingers crossed I get the all clear x

We’re here!!!!

Saturday 26th Apr
Tucked up in our hotel in docklands, race numbers picked up and lots of carbs and liquids consumed. Thank you so much for all our support xxx

Taper time

Sunday 20th Apr
Over the last week I’ve reduced the mileage - down to 6 miles on Friday and will not run much at all for the rest of this week. This fabulous charity supports us with a running coach who assures us that this rest time is essential so fingers crossed - on the final countdown now. One week to London and 2 weeks to Prague! Feeling excited and terrified - thank you so much for all your sponsorship xxxx

Ready for the crowds

Wednesday 16th Apr
Laura has done her magic so that people in the crowd know my name! This was a lovely slow evening run - taper time means we’re cutting down on miles and speed in the hope that our legs have more energy in them!

Chichester - Cathedral, sunshine and lambs

Saturday 5th Apr

22 miles: last long run done to Chichester

Saturday 5th Apr
22 miles in just over 4hrs. Lambs, sunshine and bells were lovely but the 6.30am alarm to carb-load, crazy wind and the busy road to Chi were not fun - alll factors that we won’t have to deal with on the day - yippeee! Thank you so much to all of you - your sponsorship keeps me going!!!

Year 8 Assembly

Friday 28th Mar
This week I talked to our fabulous year 8s about resilience, training and Asthma + Lung UK. We’ve been pretty amazed that our librarian used to run marathons in under 3hrs and it’s been great to hear the students share their own stories about living with asthma.

Hard work this week!!!

Sunday 16th Mar
Have felt very weary this week and thought I’d share a less cheery pic! This was 5miles before the 19 Mile target of this weekend’s long run. Shortly after this we started singing old assembly classics to get us through a tough bit - it was windy all the way round which is horrible to run in. Your sponsorship always helps in these moments when I think I mustn’t give up because of you lot! Thank you so much x

16 miles

Saturday 1st Mar
Running in the sun today. 3hrs to cover 16 miles… bit of a tricky coastal route to Rustington!

New branded training top and running buddies

Saturday 1st Mar

After 15 miles… still smiling

Saturday 22nd Feb
Not sure why we’re upside down…

Long run 15 miles

Saturday 22nd Feb

Long run tactics

Saturday 22nd Feb
Managed to watch the Team Breathe zoom recording before today’s long run which was good for tips on pace, nutrition and fuelling on the run. Took it slower today - both running pace and pace of consuming gels. End result = 3 smiling runners at the end of the 3hrs and 15miles! Gutted that I forgot the jelly babies Geoff bought me though :-(

Night running and new running stuff…

Friday 14th Feb
Proper marathon training means two things at the moment: squeezing in some miles after dark and experimenting with my new toe socks (gift from Geoff) and running jacket holdall thingymajig (gift from Laura to hold all my inhaler and long run gels).

Thank you to my Sponsors
