London Marathon 2025

I’m running the London Marathon 2025 in memory of my Mum-In-Law Helena

I am running the London Marathon 2025 in memory of my Mum-In-Law, Helena.

I will be representing Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe.

I am running the marathon to raise awareness of COPD, which is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, the name for a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties. 1.3 million people are diagnosed with COPD every year in the UK. And each year, around 30,000 people die in the UK from COPD.

COPD is a long-term condition with no current cure. However, there are treatments and medications to help people breathe more easily and aid them in keeping active. By representing Asthma + Lung UK at the London Marathon 2025, I hope to raise awareness of often unknown lung conditions and raise crucial funds for treatments for those living with life changing conditions.

Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice. All donations add up, and will make such a difference to those suffering. Thank you ❤️

My Achievements

My Updates

London Calling

Wednesday 30th Apr
This past weekend, Francesca ran the London Mini Marathon in 19 mins and 10 secs which was amazing, she had a wonderful time and smashed her PB and represented Team Breathe during the race to race in memory of her Nanny.

My race overall started well and things began to fade after the half way point. The weather was very warm and it was a massive struggle which I completed in 6hrs 19, apparently 19 mins was idle time waiting for the loos and talking to supporters. I do feel disheartened as I was aiming for 5hrs 30. However there was nothing I could do about the weather and I had to deal with it. I felt lucky enough to finish without injury or illness so completing very much became the goal.

I'm proud of the training I have done beforehand and attended things like the Expo and Race on my own which was so out of my comfort zone. I learnt alot about myself during this emotional weekend, and it was an honour to represent such an amazing charity and doing this for my Mum in Law Helena. I am also proud of the money I have helped raise which will make such a difference in supporting families and researching life threatening illnesses so know one else goes through what we have.

I've hung up the running shoes for now...

Mini TCS London Marathon

Thursday 20th Mar
My daughter Francesca is running the Mini TCS London Marathon on 26th April for Asthma & Lung UK. The run is 2.6km and she's is running in memory of her Nanny. She's very busy training at the local Junior Park runs in Lutterworth ready for the event 🫡

Half Marathon - Birmingham Run Festival

Sunday 16th Feb
Let's goooo

Half Marathon - Birmingham Run Festival

Sunday 16th Feb
Well I did it! Today Billie and Francesca came along with me to the very cold Sutton park this morning for my first ever Half Marathon race. My target was to get around 2hrs 30. It was a hilly Half Marathon which was laps x 4 around the park. I managed to complete it just under 2hrs 30 as the final km I chased down the 2hr 30 pacer. I was over the moon with the result on a challenging course. I'm really keen to test myself on a flatter Half Marathon course as I think my time would improve.
The event was ran by Run Through, I felt it was well organised lots of support and the marshalls were great giving encouragement.

April 27th is round the corner and I'm starting to believe it might just be possible. Some amazing donations recently that's moved me well above the target, thankyou so much it really means alot to all of us.

Sorry for the lack of updates!

Monday 10th Feb
Hey all, sorry for the lack of updates! It's been so busy with training, work and general life! I'm almost at my fundraising goal which is incredible, I'm blown away by the support and it means so much so massive thankyou. I've entered week 7 in to my training and Sunday I ran 19km ahead of the Birmingham Run Festival Half this Sunday. The run felt challenging but surprisingly good, knees didn't feel shot to pieces 🤣 it's my first race at the half marathon distance so obviously nervous but just need to focus on me and my own journey. The MK one back in December didn't happen because of weather and my confidence was on the floor. One thing I've found during my training is the mental aspect it's been so hard, running during the cold and the dark, early starts and dealing with aches and pains.

I thought after this marathon id retire but I got a charity place for the great north run, I must be mad. However to do two iconic races in a year for this amazing charity I just couldn't turn the opportunity down.

Thankyou all for your support and encouragement ❤️

100 days to go!

Friday 17th Jan

Week 1 complete - Runna

Sunday 5th Jan
Hey everyone, so to add some structure to my training I have started to use Runna for a training plan. Typically this will entail running on Tues & Thurs with a long run on the Sunday. I will also have my PT sessions in between. The first week was great, but back to work tomorrow so will see how I cope with all of this going on but I am anxious. Will post further updates on week 2 next week 🙂 I have also entered the Birmingham half run festival on 16th Feb so will be well in to my training by then

PB 110kg deadlift

Friday 13th Dec
Sorry for the lack of updates, I'm still training! This morning I hit my PB with a 110kg dead lift! Looking to get out running again on Sunday, not sure on the distance yet!

21k run today!

Sunday 24th Nov
Today I went out for a long run 21k! The conditions were not the best, lots of rain and wind resistance training that I hadn't planned for. Purpose of getting to this distance was to support my training for the MK half in a couple of weeks! The last 3 km felt a real struggle but I achieved the distance I set out to do.

Some new PB this week!

Wednesday 30th Oct
This week I managed to squat 80kgs which was heavy and this morning, 72.5kg on the bench press! Building up my overall fitness is heading the right way as I look to the half marathon in MK in December 💪

£502 raised golf day!

Saturday 19th Oct

Friday 18th Oct
A morning of PB with 105kg Deadlift & 55kg Lat pulldowns. The deadlift felt very heavy this morning it was a struggle but I did it. Tomorrow I have our golf day to raise funds towards my fundraising. Really excited, 24 of us tearing up Whetstone golf course it should be a great afternoon. We ended up gaining sponsorship from various companies for the day.

KG Aircraft Rotables - £100 American Golf Voucher
Nestegg Mortgages - £100
Max Electrical - £30

We have a golf lesson for the losing player kindly donated by my golf coach at Lutterworth Golf course Matt Ulyett. We also have a couple of ad-hoc prizes aswell! Aswell as the overall competition we also have nearest the pin x 2 and longest drive!

Updates from the day I will share tomorrow 🏌🏻‍♀️

MK Half Marathon - December 8th

Monday 14th Oct
To continue with my training and experiences with race events, I have entered the half Marathon at MK on December 8th!

Leicester Run Festival 10K

Sunday 13th Oct
This morning I had my first race at the Leicester Run Festival. I managed to achieve my PB on a 10K which I was really happy about. With it being my first race, I had the nerves in the morning but once I got going I really loved the experience. The volunteers & crowd were just amazing and so encouraging it massively helped! Next step is a half Marathon towards the end of the year 🫡

PB 100kg Dead lift

Saturday 5th Oct
Yesterday I achieved the 100kg deadlift, I continue to make really good progress in terms of fitness and achieving my goals.
A week to go until my first 10k race, nerves definitely starting to creep in! A couple of weeks away from the charity golf event to, worried about that first drive lol! Lots definitely going on at the moment!
Also hit £700 which is amazing amount of money so far, thankyou to everyone that has supported me with my fundraising journey so far x

70kg squat

Tuesday 1st Oct
On Monday this week I achieved a PB of a 70kg squat! Couple of days later and my thighs still hurt 🤣 Training still going well, I ran a 10km on the Sunday! Recently recieved my number for the Leicester 10k for October 13th so things feel like they are getting much more real! As ever, thanks all for sponsoring me it means alot to me and my family x

PB - 15km

Sunday 22nd Sep
Well that was an interesting run this morning. Decided to go out as it was raining a little bit, this then got worse with Thunder and Lightning and Torrential rain. My headphones also died because of the rain! Not only was I battling the elements It was a battle of wills to keep going without music, but I did it! 👌

95kg Deadlift PB

Friday 13th Sep
This morning I managed a 95kg dead lift. I continue to make really good progress in my overall fitness and really proud with how far I've come along in such a short time. I also ran 5km just to continue to keep those legs moving!

13K run PB

Sunday 8th Sep
This morning I decided to go on a long run and try and increase the distance as previously ran 10K. I managed to achieve 13K, so really pleased with the progress I'm making. It was the first time wearing my new shoes, perhaps a mistake to hit that sort of distance without bedding them in on shorter runs but I was determined to beat the 10K target.

Golf charity day!

Wednesday 4th Sep
To support the fundraising for the Marathon next year, we have organised a charity golf day at Whetstone Golf Club. It's on October 19th from 13:00. I really love my golf and this will be a great way to have fun, raise some money and raise awareness of the great work Asthma + Lung UK do.

PB 67.5kg bench press

Wednesday 4th Sep
This morning I achieved 67.5kgs on the bench press, so making some real steady strides with the fitness. I also decided to do a 5K run this morning, unfortunately not in my new shoes as they sent the wrong colour. I've got the pair I wanted on the way now, so hoping to get in a run or two by the end of the week. The trainers I went for are ASICS GT 2000 12, really comfy and am looking forward to getting more miles in!

Leicester 10K October 13th

Monday 2nd Sep
Hi all, over the weekend I have entered the Leicester 10K on October 13th! Which will be my first proper running event, I am also looking to run a half marathon in November time but once I have more I will update you! I did my gait Analysis at Runners Need in Leicester at the weekend, great service and managed to get a new pair of running shoes, these should be with me either Tues/Weds this week and am looking forward to giving them a try!

£500 raised so far!

Friday 30th Aug
Big thankyou to everyone who has helped raise £500 so far! I still have a way to go to reach the £2000 milestone but am heading in the right direction.
Tomorrow I am heading to Runners Need in Leicester tomorrow to get my Gaite Analysis sorted so I can get some proper running shoes! A new experience which I am looking forward to.

70kg squats PB

Wednesday 28th Aug
This morning achieved my PB in squatting 70kgs on my back! It felt very heavy this morning, but great to strengthen the legs!

10K Target Distance

Monday 26th Aug
Today I set off on my longest distance run with the target of 10K which I managed to reach in 1hr 15 mins. It's quite hilly around Lutterworth so I thought that was good achievement. Another milestone reached as I continue to push for further distances in my training.

Deadlift PB - 80kg

Friday 23rd Aug
Today I hit my PB of 80kg Deadlift! Training still going well and continue to suprise myself with the progress being made! Thankyou everyone for your continued support and sponsorship.

Back from Holiday

Wednesday 21st Aug
I had a lovely holiday to Switzerland and France. Whilst I was away my training didn't stop, I managed to do video sessions with my personal trainer to keep working on my fitness. Since I've returned I've continued with the PT work plus getting the running in aswell. Every run I'm definitely feeling stronger so the hard work is paying off. Soon I will be attending park runs aswell as earmarking a couple of events later on in the year as I get towards the marathon goal.

Thankyou to everyone that has supported me with sponsorship so far it really means alot to me and my family! Stay tuned for more updates 😄

Personal Best!

Friday 2nd Aug
This week has been a really good week in achieving my personal best with my Dead Lift and Bench Press at my PT sessions.

I managed 70kgs on the Dead Lift and 62.5kg on the Bench Press. My PT sessions I have been doing now for over a month and half which is really helping with my fitness. As I continue to give myself the best possible chance for when the Marathon comes around :-)

Training ongoing!

Wednesday 31st Jul
Hi all! So currently I am doing PT sessions 3 times a week (a month in so far and surviving!) This is to increase my fitness and currently completely runs up to 6K so far! Training is going well, and over the next few months will be increasing the distance and continue building up my fitness to give myself the best possible chance! I will continue to add to the blog, as looking at other fund raising initiatives to help reach my target.

Thank you to my Sponsors
