Running the Great North Run!

I am running the Great North 10k and Great North Run this year to raise money for the charity Asthma + Lung UK.

This is a very personal charity for me as I suffer with asthma and probably will for the rest of life. It can sometimes make my life very difficult as some menial tasks make me out of breath and a slight change in the weather can affect my breathing. Therefore I am hoping to raise £300 for this charity to support the work and advocating they do for people suffering with asthma and respiratory problems.

Asthma + Lung UK is the leading UK charity dedicated to improving care, providing support, and funding research for people affected by asthma and other lung conditions. Their resources help with various conditions including COPD, bronchiectasis, and pneumonia. Their campaigns focus on improving air quality, increasing NHS investment, and reducing health inequalities.

This charity is important because 1 in every 5 people develop a lung condition in their lifetime. Many struggle to access the care they desperately need and are left at home, scared, isolated and struggling to breathe. Also, 36,000 preventable early deaths are attributed to air pollution every year. Poor air quality can impact children’s lung development while they are still in the womb, putting them at risk of serious health problems later on.

In the UK, lung health care simply isn’t good enough. Lung disease is now the third most common cause of death, costing the NHS more than £9 billion every year. We’re campaigning to make sure this issue is at the top of the health agenda. People living with lung conditions are often overlooked and left behind. At Asthma + Lung UK they are fighting alongside anyone affected by lung conditions - and their voices, their stories and their experiences inform everything they do.

Your donation can help to fund the following:

£15 could help over nine people to raise their voices and call on the government to improve respiratory care through one of Asthma + Lung UK campaigns.

£24 could support a researcher at the start of their career to carry out an hour of lung health research to ensure we attract and keep the best scientific minds to focus on lung disease.

£49 helps us answer one enquiry through our Helpline from our team of Healthcare Advisors, Respiratory Nurse Specialists and Physiotherapist.

£60 could pay for six people living with a lung condition to take part in a clinical trial that is developing vital new treatments.
