Agnes swims The Channel

By Agnes Gundersen

I’m swimming to raise awareness and make a difference.

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a lung condition. Every pound I raise takes us closer to a world where everyone breathes clean air with healthy lungs

In 2017, probably as a result of a recurring chest infection, I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis - a chronic lung condition, which I will never be cured of. It means parts of my lungs are permanently damaged and that makes me more susceptable to any kind of infection and lung illness. A simple cold or flu can trigger a flare-up and make me feel unwell for weeks, exhausted, out of breath, with body aches.

Swimming is one of the most useful exercises I can do to help my lungs and it's close to my heart, as a once competitive swimmer.

In honour of it being the 20-year anniversary of my moving to England, I plan to swim the length of The English Channel (21 miles = 34 km) between June and July 2025 to raise money for this amazing charity and to raise awareness of lung diseases and the challenges of living with one.

Any donations you can give are hugely appreciated thank you for supporting me, and everyone living with a lung condition.
