I’m running the London Marathon 2027 to fight for lung health!
I am absolutely honoured to be running the London Marathon 2027 for Asthma & Lung UK, a charity that holds a very special place in my heart.
I have chosen to do this in memory and honour of my amazing dad, who sadly lost his life to COPD (emphysema) on 7th March 2025. From the moment of his diagnosis, I learned just how precious life is and how easily we take for granted something as simple as being able to breathe without pain.
My dad was a genuine local legend, a well loved man with a huge personality, the kind of person you’d never forget once you met him. He was always there for anyone who needed him, no matter what. Although he faced many challenges during the final years of his life, he never let his illness change who he was. As his condition worsened, he began to rely on his mobility scooter “Wizzy Wizzy” but his spirit and sense of humour never left him.
One of the hardest things to witness was my dad having to give up his true passion in life, drumming. As his lungs became weaker, he could no longer do the thing he loved most. Watching him go from gigging with different bands every week to struggling to walk to the kitchen without reaching for his inhaler was heartbreaking. It showed just how much this disease had taken from him.
Through his battle with COPD, I saw first hand the physical and emotional toll it had on him. He always tried to hide how difficult things were, but I knew, and so did everyone who loved him.
Losing my dad is the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced. There are so many milestones in my life he will miss, and that breaks my heart every day. But I know he is still with me. I can almost hear him now saying “go on my girl, i’m so proud of you” and thats what will carry me through.
26.2 miles. It will be painful, exhausting, and without a doubt the biggest challenge I have ever taken on. But I know it is nothing compared to the daily struggles faced by those living with lung disease.
This marathon is for my dad. For his determination, his kindness, his humour, and his incredible life. Every mile I run, he will be with me.
Thank you for supporting me as I take on the London Marathon 2027 and helping me raise awareness for a cause that means so much to me and my family. Most of all, thank you for helping me honour the memory of a man who meant the world & more to me💙
