London Marathon 2027 – Running for Uncle Graham
Wednesday 17th JunIn April 2027, I’ll stand on the start line of the London Marathon and take on 26.2 miles — easily the biggest physical challenge I’ve ever signed up for. I’m doing it proudly for Asthma & Lung UK, and every single step will be run in honour of my Uncle Graham.
Uncle Graham lived with lung health conditions for years; I saw first‑hand how much it could affect him day to day, yet never once stop him. He was full of life, mischief and that unmistakable, loud, dirty cackle of a laugh — and honestly, I can already hear him now, cracking up at me for taking something this big on! That sound is never far from my mind, and even though he’d be the first to tease me, I also know he’d be my biggest cheerleader telling me to keep going.
Right now, I haven’t started my training yet — but that changes very soon. I’m going from zero running to building up week‑by‑week: early mornings, rain or shine, achy legs and long miles ahead. There will definitely be days I wonder what on earth I’ve let myself in for… and on those days, I’ll just picture Uncle Graham grinning, hear that familiar dirty laugh ringing in my ears, and push on a little further. It’s his grit and good humour I’m carrying with me all the way to the finish line.
Asthma & Lung UK is the charity that works every day to help people and families affected by asthma, COPD, lung cancer and other respiratory illnesses — providing support, advice and funding life‑saving research. They make such a difference to people living with the same challenges Uncle Graham faced, and every penny I raise goes straight to helping them keep that vital work going.
This isn’t just a run — it’s my way of turning effort into something meaningful, running for him, and for everyone still fighting to breathe easier. Any donation, share or message of encouragement means the world — together we can make it count, even if Uncle Graham is laughing at me the whole way.
Thank you for joining me from the very beginning of this journey, all the way to April 2027.
