26.2 miles for Granny and Better Lung Health!
In 2027, I will be taking on one of the biggest challenges of my life by running the London Marathon in support of Asthma + Lung UK.
I am running in memory of my granny, who sadly passed away in 2019, shortly before my 18th birthday. For many years she lived with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a condition that had a significant impact on her quality of life. Simple things that many of us take for granted, such as breathing comfortably, became a daily struggle.
My granny belonged to a generation where smoking was considered normal and the long-term health consequences were not fully understood. By the time she stopped smoking, the damage to her lungs had already been done. COPD is a life-limiting condition with no cure, and watching the effects it had on her reinforced just how important lung health is.
I am raising money for Asthma + Lung UK to help support those currently living with COPD and other lung conditions, as well as to contribute towards vital research into new treatments and medications. My hope is that one day fewer families will have to watch their loved ones face the challenges that my granny endured.
This marathon is also my way of raising awareness about the importance of looking after our lungs. Breathing is something most of us rarely think about, until it becomes difficult.
The London Marathon will be a huge challenge for me. Alongside training, I will be completing my Master's degree, qualifying and working as a Paramedic, and starting the next chapter of my career. There will undoubtedly be difficult days and training will be challenging with such a busy schedule, but knowing why I am doing this will keep me going.
If you knew my granny, she would probably be laughing at the thought of me running a marathon in her name and telling me not to be so silly. Running 26.2 miles would have been her idea of absolute torture!
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference. Thank you for supporting me, remembering my granny, and helping Asthma + Lung UK continue their incredible work.
