I’m running the London Marathon 2027 to fight for lung health!

I’m Paul, and I’m absolutely buzzing to be part of this amazing group of people ahead of the 2027 London Marathon!

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to run for such a brilliant cause, and cannot wait to raise both awareness and a decent amount of cash along the way! 💪

So why am I doing this?

Well, it’s pretty personal to me. I’ve watched the London Marathon every year since I was a young boy, always dreaming about what it would be like to actually be one of those runners. Growing up with asthma made that dream feel complicated.

I knew better than most how tough it can be just to get through normal daily life, let alone tackle 26.2 miles.

I’d largely got on top of it as an adult, but Covid in 2020 brought it all back, and I’ve been living with it again ever since. So this isn’t just a fitness challenge for me ….it’s proof that asthma doesn’t get the final say. I want to show my kids that a diagnosis isn’t a ceiling, especially as it’s likely one of them will develop asthma too.

If I can get to that finish line, I hope it shows them, and anyone else living with a lung condition, that anything is possible.

Every minute, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a lung condition. I want to make a difference. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.

Just £24 can support a researcher at the start of their career to carry out an hour of lung health research to ensure we attract and keep the best scientific minds to focus on lung disease.

Any support would be amazing in my fight for lung health!

It’s Real Now: Training Starts Today

Thursday 16th Jul
There’s a moment in every big challenge where it stops being an idea and starts being a fact you have to deal with. That moment just hit me.
I signed up for the TCS London Marathon 2027 months ago. Back then it felt distant, just something to think about “later.” Later has arrived. 26.2 miles isn’t going to run itself, and neither is the fundraising that goes alongside it.
So here it is: the realisation has dawned. The work starts now.

The Training
No shortcuts, no easing in gently, training begins properly from here. Running, resistance work, the boring-but-essential stuff around recovery and nutrition. Fitting it around night shifts won’t be easy, but that’s the deal I signed up for.
I’ll be tracking progress as I go, the good weeks, bad weeks, the lot. If you’ve ever trained for something that scared you a bit, you’ll know it’s rarely a straight line.

The Fundraising

I’m running for Asthma + Lung UK as part of Team Breathe, with a target of £2,500. That number needs ideas behind it, not just a JustGiving link and good intentions. There are a few things in motion already, and more to come like auctions, prizes, and a few surprises I’m not ready to share yet.

Watch This Space

This is the first post, not the last. Expect updates on the miles, the fundraising pushes, and probably a few honest moments where I question my life choices somewhere around mile 18.

For now: trainers on, head down, let’s go.
