I’m running the London Marathon in Memory of Ella Grogan who passed away shortly after her 19th Birthday with pneumonia. I am running to honour her memory.

I am running the London Marathon in memory of my close friend and colleagues daughter Ella Grogan who sadly passed away in January 2025 of pneumonia shortly after her 19th Birthday. Ella was a former pupil at Lincoln Minster School, where I still work -  she was in my form and year group, and I have so many professional memories of her at school, on trips and sports fixtures alongside personal memories of a friend’s daughter who was one of the nicest and kindest young people you could ever meet. So I’m running to keep her memory alive.

Ella had just completed her first term at Durham University and in such a short space of time had made many friends, all of whom say the same things about her: “Ella lit up every room she entered. She made the most of absolutely every opportunity given to her and she inspired everyone around her to do the same. Ella was thoughtful and kind, she saw the best in everyone and never grumbled about anything”

Ella was a fantastic squash player alongside being an all round accomplished sportswoman - always willing to give anything a go. She was driven, enthusiastic and threw herself wholeheartedly into everything she did whether that be sports, academic studies, societies or simply supporting those she cared about. Above all else, Ella was a family person. She loved being at home with her Mum, Dad, Sister and brother - I have seen how their lives have been shattered and torn apart at the loss of their daughter and sibling, their lives will never be the same again.

This marathon is for Ella. To celebrate her life and to raise money for Asthma and Lung Uk, an amazing charity that supports people affected by lung conditions and funds vital research to prevent tragedies like Ella’s from happening in the future. It is also for her family to let them know how much Ella meant to so many people - to let them know that Ella will never be forgotten and her legacy will live on always. Please support me by donating what you can to help raise funds in memory of Ella.
